Crop duration: Zucchini are fast-growing vegetables that are usually ready to harvest between 50 and 70 days after sowing. They can be harvested young for more tender fruit, or allowed to mature a little longer for a larger size.
Special Features: The Assorted Zucchini mix includes varieties that offer fruit in shades of light green, dark green, yellow, and some with interesting stripes or patterns. This diversity not only beautifies your garden, but also provides a variety of flavors and textures in the kitchen. Zucchini are rich in vitamins A and C, as well as being low in calories, making them a healthy and versatile choice in the kitchen.
Lighting: They prefer full sun for optimal growth and abundant production. Make sure the plants receive at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight per day.
Watering: Zucchini require regular watering to keep the soil evenly moist, but well-drained. Avoid wetting the leaves during watering to prevent fungal diseases such as mildew.
Pests: Zucchini can be susceptible to pests such as aphids, cucumber beetles and stem borer worms. Using environmentally friendly products such as potassium soap and neem oil is recommended to keep pests under control.
Cold hardiness: Zucchini are sensitive to cold and do not tolerate frost well. It is best to sow them after the risk of frost has passed in spring, or start them indoors if necessary.
Substrate: A well-drained, organic-rich substrate is recommended. Zucchini prefer slightly acidic to neutral soils and respond well to fertile, well-aerated soil.
Harvest: Zucchini can be harvested when they reach a size of 15-20cm, although they can be allowed to grow a little larger if preferred. Harvesting regularly promotes continuous fruit production. They are best harvested when young and tender for the best flavour and texture.
Shipping: All shipments are made through Bluespress. Check out our growing manuals on our website: www.arcademendel.com .
