Quantity for the Value: 20 Seeds

Packaging: We work with the best German, Spanish, Dutch and Chilean seed suppliers, which allows us to offer you Chives seeds harvested and packaged in 2024, guaranteeing their freshness and a high percentage of germination.

Crop Duration: Chives are a perennial plant that can be harvested approximately 60 to 75 days after sowing. Once established, chives can be harvested continuously throughout the growing season, returning with increasing vigor each year.

Special Features: Chives are known for their thin, tubular, bright green leaves, which have a mild onion-like flavor. In addition to their culinary use, chives produce small, globe-shaped purple flowers, which are edible and add a decorative touch to dishes. Chives are a low-maintenance plant that can easily be grown in gardens, containers, or window boxes.

Lighting: Prefers full sun for optimal growth, although it can also tolerate partial shade. Make sure plants receive at least 4 to 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.

Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist, but well-drained. Chives need regular watering to ensure vigorous growth and tender leaves. Avoid overwatering to prevent root rot.

Pests: Chives are generally resistant to pests, although they can occasionally be affected by aphids and thrips. The use of environmentally friendly products, such as potassium soap and neem oil, is recommended to keep pests under control.

Cold hardiness: Chives are very cold hardy and can withstand frost, making them an excellent choice for temperate and cold climates. In winter, chives go dormant and re-emerge in spring.

Substrate: A well-drained, organic-rich substrate is recommended. A slightly acidic to neutral soil is ideal for growing chives, allowing for good drainage and healthy growth.

Harvesting: Chives can be harvested by cutting off the leaves as you need them, making sure to leave at least 5cm from the base to allow for regrowth. The leaves are best used fresh and can be added to dishes just before serving to preserve their flavour and aroma.

Shipping: All shipments are made through Bluespress. Check out our growing manuals on our website: www.arcademendel.com .
