Description

Introduction: At Arcade Mendel , we offer a selection of seeds that allow gardeners to grow high-quality aromatic, medicinal and ornamental plants. Sage (Salvia spp.) is a genus that includes a wide variety of plants known for their aromatic leaves and colorful flowers. It is ideal for those who want to add beauty, fragrance and utility to their garden, with plants that attract pollinators and can be used in cooking or home remedies.

Packaging: We work with the best German, Spanish, Dutch and Chilean seed suppliers, which allows us to offer you Salvia seeds collected and packaged in 2024, guaranteeing their freshness and a high percentage of germination.

Growing time: Salvia is a perennial in temperate climates, although it can behave as an annual in colder climates. Plants begin to flower in their second year after sowing, although the aromatic leaves can be harvested much earlier.

Special Features: Salvia produces aromatic leaves that can be used fresh or dried in cooking, especially in meat dishes and sauces. Additionally, its brightly colored flowers, which range from blue and purple to red and pink, are highly attractive to bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, making it an excellent choice for organic gardens.

Lighting: Prefers full sun for optimal growth and abundant flowering, but can also tolerate partial shade. Make sure plants receive at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.

Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist, but well-drained. Salvia is relatively drought tolerant once established, so moderate watering is sufficient. Avoid overwatering to prevent root rot.

Pests: Salvia is generally resistant to pests, but can occasionally be affected by aphids, spider mites and thrips. The use of environmentally friendly products, such as potassium soap and Neem oil, is recommended to keep pests under control.

Cold hardiness: Salvia is moderately cold hardy and can withstand light frosts. In colder climates, it is advisable to protect it with mulch or grow it in pots that can be moved indoors during the winter.

Substrate: A well-drained, slightly alkaline substrate is recommended. A sandy soil or a mixture of compost and sand is ideal for growing Salvia, allowing for good drainage and healthy growth.

Harvesting: Salvia leaves can be harvested at any time once the plant has grown sufficiently. For the best flavour, it is advisable to harvest the leaves in the morning when the essential oils are most concentrated. The flowers can also be harvested for decorative use or in infusions.

Shipping: All shipments are made through Bluespress. Check out our growing manuals on our website: www.arcademendel.com .
