Description

Introduction: At Arcade Mendel , we offer a selection of seeds that allow gardeners and spicy enthusiasts to grow a unique and visually appealing variety of chili peppers. The Black Chili Pepper ( Capsicum annuum ), also known as "Black Chili" or "Black Pepper", is famous for its dark coloring that varies from purple to black, and its moderate spicy flavor. This chili pepper is ideal for those looking for an ornamental and productive plant that adds a distinctive touch both in the garden and in the kitchen.

Packaging: We work with the best German, Spanish, Dutch and Chilean seed suppliers, which allows us to offer you Black Pepper seeds harvested and packaged in 2024, guaranteeing their freshness and a high percentage of germination.

Growing Time: Black Chili is a relatively fast growing plant. Seeds can take between 1-2 weeks to germinate under optimal conditions. Plants will begin producing chillies in approximately 70-90 days. Chillies change colour as they mature, starting out as a dark green turning purple and finally black, before fully ripening to a deep red.

Special Features: Black Pepper chiles are elongated, measuring 5-10 cm long, and are known for their unique color. As they mature, the chiles turn from a dark purple to black, before turning red when fully ripe. Their heat level is moderate, ranging from 5,000 to 10,000 units on the Scoville scale, similar to that of a jalapeno. In addition to their culinary use, these chiles are prized for their ornamental value, adding a touch of color and sophistication to gardens and containers. They are perfect for use fresh, dried, or pickled.

Lighting: Prefers full sun for optimal growth and to maximize fruit production and the development of its characteristic dark color. The Black Pepper needs at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day to develop properly.

Irrigation: Black Peppers require regular watering, making sure the soil is kept evenly moist, but not waterlogged. Maintaining consistent watering is important during flowering and fruiting to ensure good quality fruit.

Pests: These chillies can be susceptible to common pests such as aphids, spider mites and caterpillars. Using environmentally friendly products such as potassium soap or neem oil is recommended to keep pests under control. Regular inspection of the plants is helpful in detecting and managing any pest problems in time.

Cold hardiness: Black chillies are sensitive to cold and grow best in warm climates. It is advisable to sow the seeds indoors or in a greenhouse if outside temperatures are below 15°C. Plants should be transplanted outdoors only after the risk of frost has passed.

Substrate: A well-drained substrate rich in organic matter is recommended. A soil with good drainage and high fertility will help the plants develop a strong root system and produce a greater quantity of chili peppers.

Harvest: Black Pepper chiles can be harvested at any stage of ripeness depending on the flavor and use you prefer. For a milder flavor, harvest chiles when they are purple or black. For a sweeter flavor and slightly reduced heat, leave chiles on the plant until they turn red. Harvest chiles by cutting them off with pruning shears or a sharp knife, leaving a small piece of stem attached to the fruit.
